Gambrel roof connectors.

Using a rigid gambrel frame made with 2x12 rafters and glued and nailed plywood gussets the author was able to get a 28 foot clear span. This is the second one so me helpful hints since the connectors are flimsy until the unit is completely assembled. For gravity loads the system is analyzed as a triangular three hinged arch the ridge connection and the two rafter to plate connections are thought of as hinge connections while the midspan gussets are treated as rigid joints. Hardware is required at only three points as opposed to nine different joints in the roof assembly of a traditionally framed gambrel making the system considerably easier to build.

Our newest connectors have been developed to make stick frame connections in roofs as intuitive as possible to ensure the construction of safer stronger homes. The varied roof lines that are possible with stick frame homes can also enhance curb appeal and market value for some homebuyers.
